Acadia Herbals
About Acadia Herbals
Acadia Herbals opened its doors in the fall
of 2003 in the historic city of Northampton, MA, just east
of the Berkshires.  Being a small business, we are
committed to offering the highest quality, organic herbs
and spices available.  Along with these herbs, we offer
organic teas, essential oils, tinctures, herbal capsules,
Maine Flower Essences, salves, soap-making supplies,
gems/crystals, gifts, classes, and more.

Founder of Acadia Herbals is Nathaniel Petley, an
herbalist and horticulturist who brings together a wide
assortment of knowledge of the plant world.  He has a
B.S. Degree in Landscape Horticulture from the
University of Maine and a Master's degree in Plant
Science from the University of Connecticut.  Nate
wildcrafts many abundant herbs all around New
England and works with local organic farmers to grow
many others.   He teaches classes in his shop and in
the field on plant identification, gardening, soap making,
and using herbs for medicinal and culinary purposes.

Acadia Herbals proudly supports local herbalists and
farmers.  Most of our creams, salves and herbal
products are made in Western MA and CT.  Many of
our herbs were grown on organic farms throughout New
England.  When available and abundant, we wildcraft
local herbs.  Whenever possible, however, Acadia
Herbals buys certified organic herbs rather than
wildcrafted endangered species.  For example, our
American ginseng and goldenseal is certified organic,
not harvested from the wild.  This often increases the
cost of our herbs, but we feel the protection of native
populations is worth the price.
