Organic Tea
Tea has been consumed for thousands of years in the East, and only recently has the Western world discovered tea’s health benefits. Research shows tea to be high in antioxidants and therefore a good cancer preventative. Tea also reduces cholesterol and aids in weight loss. Although tea does contain caffeine, there are many other constituents that balance the stimulating effects of the caffeine, unlike coffee. This balance is why many tea drinkers find it calming and soothing enough to enjoy a cup of tea before bed. Although each and every cup should be looked at as a work of art, it does not take an artist to create a great tasting tea. If you can heat water, you’ re half way there! Use a tea pot or mason jar to steep your tea and follow the guidelines found in each tea category below.
Acadia Herbals is proud to offer many of the finest organic teas in the world. And because one pound of tea will yield an average of 200 cups, buying bulk loose tea is very cost effective. So sit back and enjoy!
Green Tea Mainly grown in China and Japan, green tea is a great source of antioxidants (calorie-free!) and research shows green tea is more potent than Vitamin E and 21 fruits and vegetables! Perhaps this is why the most consumed tea in China is green (but it’s probably the refreshing taste). Discovered over 5000 years ago, it is traditionally offered to guests as a sign of respect. Place 1 tsp. in 12 oz. filtered water heated to 180°F and steep for 2-3 minutes. These high quality green teas can be steeped several times (no, it’s not considered cheap if you reuse your tea leaves!).

White Tea White tea is the most delicate of all teas. Unlike other teas, white tea is only steamed and dried, not oxidized, rolled or withered. Essentially unaltered, white tea has the lowest level of caffeine and the widest spectrum of antioxidants compared to all other teas. White tea is considered to be cooling, detoxifying and a promoter of longevity. A cup of white tea is subtle yet complex and has a natural sweetness which pares nicely with light foods, fruits or by itself. Place 1 Tbs. in 12oz filtered water heated to 175°F-180°F and steep for 3-4 minutes. White teas can be steeped multiple times.

Black Tea Grown in China, India and Sri Lanka, black tea is an invigorating tea good both in the morning and in the afternoon. Black teas contain high amounts of antioxidants and essential oils. Place 1 tsp. in 12 oz. filtered water heated to 205°F and steep for 5 minutes. For Darjeeling tea, place 1 tsp. in 12 oz water heated to 195°F and steep for 3-4 minutes.

Oolong Tea Oolong tea is mostly grown in China and Taiwan (Formosa) and is semi-fermented, which yields qualities of both black and green tea. It is full bodied and has a fragrant flavor with a fruity sweet aroma. Research suggests that oolong tea can reduce cholesterol and aid in weight loss. Although typically consumed between meals, oolong tea pairs well with any cuisine. Place 1 Tbs. in filtered water heated to 205°F and steep for 3 minutes. Oolong is great for multiple steeping.

Herbal Tea Although called tea, herbal teas do not contain leaves of Camellia sinensis. Instead, roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruit are infused to offer an array of flavors and health benefits. Acadia Herbals searches for the highest quality organic herbs and does not use synthetic flavorings. Depending on preference, place between 1 to 2 tsp. tea in filtered water heated to 205°F and steep 5-6 minutes.
